The Latin Connection is a jazz album by vibraphonist Terry Gibbs, released in 1982. The album showcases Gibbs’ exploration of Latin jazz rhythms and features a mix of original compositions and Latin-infused arrangements of jazz standards.
On “The Latin Connection,” Terry Gibbs is joined by a stellar lineup of musicians, pianist Clare Fischer, saxophonist Med Flory, bassist Andy Simpkins, and drummer John Dentz, including Tito Puente playing timbales on three of the nine numbers. The album highlights Gibbs’ virtuosic vibraphone playing, blending his energetic and precise technique with the infectious rhythms and grooves of Latin music.
Most of the tunes are bop and swing standards such as”Scrapple From the Apple,” “Groovin’ High,” “Good Bait” and “Sing, Sing, Sing” and have excellent spots for Gibbs, Morgan and the percussion section.
