Wildside was a glam metal band formed in Los Angeles, California, in the late 1980s. The group consisted of lead vocalist Drew Hannah, guitarists Benny Rhynedance and Brent Wood, bassist Marc Simon, and drummer Jimmy D. They were part of the glam metal scene that dominated the Sunset Strip during that time, alongside bands like Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, and Poison.
In 1992, Wildside released their debut album, simply titled “Wildside.” The album was produced by Andy Johns, who had previously worked with renowned acts like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones. The band’s sound on the album blended elements of glam metal, sleaze rock, and hard rock, with catchy hooks and anthemic choruses.
Some of the notable tracks from the album include “Life in the grid,” which received moderate airplay and featured a memorable guitar riff, and “Full circle,” a power ballad that showcased the band’s melodic side. Other songs like “When I was you,” “Generation Overkill,” and “Company Of users” displayed the energetic and raw attitude that characterized the glam metal scene.
Despite positive reviews from critics, the album did not achieve significant commercial success. It was released at a time when the popularity of glam metal was starting to decline, making it difficult for newer bands to break through. Wildside disbanded in the mid-1990s, shortly after the release of their album.
Over the years, Wildside has gained a cult following among fans of glam metal and ’80s hard rock. The album showcases the band’s energetic performances and captures the spirit of the era. While Wildside’s career was relatively short-lived, their debut album remains a notable entry in the glam metal genre.
