Sex Doctor is a song by the American punk rock band SWA. SWA, short for “Sex With Animals,” was a punk rock band formed in the early 1980s and featured members Chuck Dukowski, formerly of Black Flag, on bass and vocals, Greg Cameron on drums, and Sylvia Juncosa on guitar.
Blending the punk sounds of the SST label (Black Flag, Minutemen) with those of ’70s hard rock sludgemeisters, SWA debuted in 1985 with Your Future (If You Have One).
Led by former Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski and vocalist Merrill Ward, the group released Sex Doctor. the following year and then added guitarist Sylvia Juncosa (also with To Damascus).
Sex Doctor embodies SWA’s raw and energetic punk sound, characterized by aggressive guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and provocative lyrics. The song tackles themes of sexuality and personal exploration, with a blend of punk aggression and catchy hooks.
While SWA never achieved mainstream commercial success, they gained a dedicated following within the punk rock scene for their intense live performances and their confrontational and irreverent approach to music. Sex Doctor remains one of their notable albums, capturing the band’s punk spirit and their willingness to push boundaries with their lyrics and sound.
