The Heart Throbs - I Wonder Why - Vinyl 45 rpm single
Brand new, never played
One Little Indian Records 1990 UK

Real Name: Rose Carlotti, Rachael Carlotti, Alan Borgia, Stephen Ward, Mark Side, Noko, Steve Monti, Colleen Browne, Steve "Bes" Wick Profile: The Heart Throbs were born in Reading, UK, in the mid 80s. In 1989, after a string of singles on different indies, they signed to One Little Indian who released their debut album, Cleopatra Grip, in 1990.

The group toured the album heavily, which took its toll. Mark Side & Rachel Carlotti left the band in late-1990, in the middle of a tense US tour. Noko (bass), and Curve's Steve Monti (drums) stepped in to replace them, and stayed with the group for their second album, 1992s Jubilee Twist.

Their third and final album, Vertical Smile, was released in 1993. The Heart Throbs had somewhat reinvented themselves into a raw, angry band. On this release Noko and Monti were replaced by Steve 'Bes' Wick (drums) and Colleen Browne (bass, later to appear in Pale Saints). The group played their final UK show on December 8th of that year, before disbanding.

Female fronted (sisters) indie band from the early nineties. Album titles such as "cleopatra grip" and "jubilee twist" will raise an eyebrow for those who know what they refer to. The music akin to a Blondie / Belly type band cross, but with a slightly harder edge. However, they failed to make a large impact which some consider a shame; though the edge alluded to in the album titles was not one they often chose to replicate musically or lyrically, with songs such as "I Wonder Why", "Dreamtime" and "So Far" among their catalogue. The song "Brood Bitch" from their third and final album "Vertical Smile" (and it's not an emoticon!), suggested a harder direction they could have chosen.

Producer - Gil Norton
