Description
The Jackofficers – Digital Dump – Cassette
Digital Dump is an album by The Jackofficers, a musical project formed by Gibby Haynes and Jeff Pinkus, both of whom were members of the American alternative rock band Butthole Surfers. The album was released in 1987.
The Jackofficers’ Digital Dump is notable for its experimental and electronic sound, which is quite distinct from the Butthole Surfers’ more psychedelic and punk-oriented style. This album reflects the electronic music trends of the 1980s and features a blend of samples, synthesizers, and unconventional soundscapes.
The project allowed Haynes and Pinkus to explore different musical territories beyond their work with the Butthole Surfers. Digital Dump is characterized by its genre-blurring approach, incorporating elements of industrial, electronic, and experimental music.
The Jackofficers was a side project started by Gibby Haynes and Jeff Pinkus of the Butthole Surfers. They released their only album, Digital Dump, in 1990 and disbanded the same year following a brief club tour that found them simply hitting play on a walkman and standing there while it played. The music consisted entirely of samples manipulated and mixed on early computer software and f/x. Samples range from Jimi Hendrix spoken words to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
While Digital Dump may not be as well-known as some of the Butthole Surfers’ releases, it remains an interesting and experimental project within the broader context of alternative and electronic music in the 1980s. It showcases the musicians’ willingness to experiment and push the boundaries of their creative expression.
