Trip Shakespeare – Volt – Cassette

Volt is the third studio album by the American rock band Trip Shakespeare. It was released on March 15, 1990. Trip Shakespeare was a Minneapolis-based band known for their eclectic and melodic blend of alternative rock, power pop, and psychedelic influences.

Volt features the distinctive songwriting and harmonies of the band’s co-frontmen, Dan Wilson and Matt Wilson (no relation). The album showcases their strong musical chemistry and innovative approach to songcraft.

The band’s unique sound, combining intricate arrangements with catchy hooks and poetic lyrics, earned them a devoted following in the alternative music scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Some of the standout tracks on “Volt” include “Snow Days,” “Toolmaster of Brainerd,” “Reception,” and “Spirit.” The album received critical acclaim and helped solidify Trip Shakespeare’s reputation as one of the emerging talents in the indie rock scene at the time.

Following the release of Volt, Trip Shakespeare’s success continued to grow, and their next album, “Lulu,” received even greater attention. However, despite their growing popularity, the band disbanded in 1992.

Today, Trip Shakespeare is often remembered as a significant band from the Minneapolis music scene, which also birthed bands like The Replacements and Hüsker Dü. “Volt” remains an important record in their discography and an essential piece of the alternative rock landscape of the early 1990s.
