Universal Congress Of – Prosperous And Qualified – Cassette

Universal Congress Of – Prosperous And Qualified is the third studio album by the American experimental rock band Universal Congress Of, released in 1987. The band, formed in the early 1980s, was known for their eclectic and genre-defying approach to music, incorporating elements of avant-garde jazz, funk, rock, and improvisation.

Led by ex-Saccharine Trust axewielder Joe Baiza, Universal Congress Of began as the title for Baiza’s 1987 solo record later becoming the name of his fine, funky backing band.

Although on his debut solo LP he was still playing semi-improvised, avant-garde jazz-rock similar to what he was exploring in Saccharine Trust, Baiza/UCO’s later (and for my money better) work was more structured and song-oriented.

Although he continued to show a talent for all-out free playing and gnarled, aural jazz damage, when Baiza added funk to the mix and kept the songs under ten minutes, he became a much more interesting musician and UCO became a much more interesting band.

Prosperous And Qualified showcases Universal Congress Of’s unique blend of musical styles and their ability to create complex and engaging compositions. The album features intricate and tightly woven instrumentals, with each musician contributing their own creative flair to the overall sound.

The tracks on “Prosperous And Qualified” often display intricate rhythms, intricate guitar work, and dynamic interplay between the instruments. The band’s improvisational approach adds an element of unpredictability and spontaneity to the music, creating a sense of exploration and experimentation.

While Universal Congress Of may not have achieved mainstream commercial success, they gained recognition and respect within the experimental music scene. “Prosperous And Qualified” highlights the band’s technical proficiency, musical versatility, and their willingness to push the boundaries of traditional rock and jazz conventions.

For fans of experimental rock, fusion, and avant-garde jazz, “Universal Congress Of – Prosperous And Qualified” offers a captivating and adventurous listening experience. The album represents a unique blend of musical styles and showcases the band’s ability to create intricate and engaging compositions that defy easy categorization.
