Jad Fair And Phono-Comb – Mosters, Lullabies… – Compact Disc

Moster, Lullabies, and… is an album by Jad Fair, a prolific American musician known for his work in the alternative and indie music scenes. Jad Fair is a founding member of the band Half Japanese and has collaborated with numerous artists over the years. Moster, Lullabies, and… is one such collaborative project with the band Phono-Comb.

Jad Fair teams up with the Canadian proto-surf band, Phono-Comb. The full title of the album is actually MONSTERS, LULLABIES, …AND THE OCCASIONAL FLYING SAUCER. Add “love” and “romance,” and you pretty much have the contents of these 17 songs.

Phono-Comb was a Canadian experimental rock band featuring members like Dallas Good and Ford Pier. Together with Jad Fair, they created this album, which was released in 1995. The album is characterized by its eclectic and experimental approach to music, blending elements of rock, punk, and avant-garde styles.

The album includes dirge-like numbers (“The Beast Within”) and revved-up speedsters (“Object: To Serve Man”). Fair’s collaborations always offer a fascinating look at the consistency of his vision. They also speak for his excellent taste in sparring partners. Fair has recorded with Yo La Tengo, Shapir-O’Rama, Daniel Johnston, and The Pastels. Phono-Comb is clearly a group of Fair fans. The band bends its style to meet his, and Fair reciprocates. Had these two parties never met, “Just Across the Street” couldn’t have happened. The cleanly recorded MONSTER is what sympathetic collaboration is all about.

The title Moster, Lullabies, and… hints at the diverse nature of the album’s content. It likely includes a mix of tracks that range from the noisy and chaotic (representative of “monsters”) to more subdued and gentle (representative of “lullabies”). This kind of sonic contrast is often a hallmark of experimental and avant-garde music.

Jad Fair’s work, both with Half Japanese and in various collaborative projects, is known for its unconventional and artistic approach to music. His unique vocal style and willingness to explore unconventional themes and sounds have made him a respected figure in the alternative music scene.

Moster, Lullabies, and… may not be as well-known as some of Jad Fair’s other works, it’s likely to be of interest to fans of experimental and avant-garde music who appreciate music that challenges traditional norms and boundaries.
