Description
Morphine – Honey White – Compact Disc
Honey White is a song by the band Morphine, which was known for its unique blend of alternative rock and jazz influences. The song is from their 1995 album “Yes,” and it captures the distinctive sound that Morphine was known for, with Mark Sandman’s deep, smoky vocals and the band’s use of unconventional instruments like the two-string slide bass.
The lyrics of Honey White are somewhat abstract, leaving room for interpretation, but they often evoke a sense of melancholy and introspection. The combination of the lyrics and the band’s musical style creates a haunting and atmospheric listening experience.
Morphine’s music, including Honey White, has a dedicated following and is appreciated for its originality and the way it defies traditional genre boundaries. While opinions on their music can vary, there’s no denying that Morphine had a unique and memorable sound that left a lasting impact on the alternative music scene.
As strange as it seems to have a band consisting of vocals, two-string slide bass, drums and baritone sax, it turns out to work devilishly well, as this first single from Morphine’s yes proves. Driving, swaying rock & roll that leans left to blues and right to jazz along the way, it’s an infectious piece of work. The two additional tracks on the single are live versions of “I Know You, Part II” and “All Wrong” recorded for radio in Holland, both dark, wonderful cuts.
