Amanda Lear – Angel Love – 12″ Vinyl Single Record
Amanda Lear is a French singer, songwriter, actress, and former model known for her work in disco, pop, and dance music, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. She has a diverse discography with numerous hits.
Amanda Lear began her career as a model and muse for Salvador Dalí before transitioning to music in the mid-1970s. She gained fame with her deep, distinctive voice and a string of disco hits, becoming a prominent figure in the European music scene. Some of her most notable songs include “Queen of Chinatown,” “Follow Me,” “Fashion Pack,” and “Enigma (Give a Bit of Mmh to Me).”
Her music blends disco, pop, and dance, often characterized by catchy melodies, glamorous production, and her sultry voice. Lear’s persona combines a mix of sophistication, mystery, and allure, which has made her a lasting icon in the music and fashion industries.
Amanda Lear first surfaced in the early ’70s as a fetishistically clothed album-cover model for Roxy Music. She was said to be a transsexual but, as she told Interview magazine, that was just a ruse dreamed up by her sponsor, David Bowie, to draw attention. Her importance to disco fans, however, began in 1977, when she recorded I Am a Photograph in Germany with production help from Tony Monn. I Am a Photograph is the first of six sleazy, hard-to-find albums in which she flaunts a voice so heavy with low notes it makes one wonder if she really isn’t a man after all.
But Lear’s slow notes are simply an exaggeration of the whiskey-voiced sultriness created by Marlene Dietrich. Lear’s lyrics or the music’s inverted proportions, don’t exploit her mythology as a kinky concoction to the bursting point.
