WASP – Live . . . Animal – Cassette
Live…Animal (Fuck Like a Beast) is a live album by the American heavy metal band W.A.S.P. The album was originally recorded during W.A.S.P.’s 1984 tour in Long Beach, California, and was released in 1987. It captures the energy and rawness of the band’s live performances during their early years.
The album’s title refers to one of W.A.S.P.’s controversial songs, “Animal (Fuck Like a Beast),” which generated significant controversy and censorship due to its explicit content. In some versions of the album, the title may appear without the explicit language.
As was the case with Prince’s notorious Black Album, the hype surrounding this controversial debut four-track EP from W.A.S.P. far outweighed the title track’s offensive content or musical merits. At least it served to make this release a collector’s item, though, which sold thousands of copies via mail order throughout the ’80s.
W.A.S.P. (short for “We Are Sexual Perverts”) was known for their theatrical stage shows and heavy metal anthems. Led by frontman Blackie Lawless, the band gained a dedicated following in the 1980s with their hard-hitting music and provocative image.
Live…Animal (Fuck Like a Beast) features many of the band’s classic tracks from their first two studio albums, including “Animal (Fuck like a Beast),” “Hellion ,” and “Mississippi Queen.” It’s a great showcase of W.A.S.P.’s early live performances and is appreciated by fans of the band and the heavy metal genre.
