Modern English – Pillow Lips (I’ll Melt With You) – Vinyl Record
Modern English is a British post-punk and new wave band formed in Colchester, England, in 1979. Modern English are best known for their hit song I Melt with You, which was released in 1982 and became an iconic anthem of the new wave era.
The original lineup of Modern English consisted of Robbie Grey (vocals), Gary McDowell (guitar), Michael Conroy (bass), Richard Brown (drums), and Stephen Walker (keyboards). Their early music had a distinct post-punk sound, but they later embraced a more new wave and pop-oriented style.
I Melt with You was featured on their second album, ‘After the Snow’ (1982), and became their biggest commercial success. The song’s catchy melody, upbeat rhythm, and optimistic lyrics contributed to its popularity and enduring status as a beloved ’80s classic.
Modern English continued to release albums and tour over the years, although they went through several lineup changes. Some of their other notable songs include ‘Gathering Dust,’ ‘Ink and Paper,’ and ‘Someone’s Calling.’
Despite changes in their musical direction and lineup, Modern English remains an essential part of the new wave and post-punk movements of the 1980s. Their music continues to be celebrated and enjoyed by fans of the era and new generations alike.
