Pere Ubu is an American rock band that was formed in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1975. The band is known for its experimental and innovative approach to music, blending elements of punk rock, post-punk, art rock, and other genres. Their sound is characterized by off-kilter rhythms, discordant guitars, and the distinctive, expressive vocals of their frontman, David Thomas.

The founding members of Pere Ubu were David Thomas (vocals), Peter Laughner (guitar), Tom Herman (guitar), Tim Wright (bass), Scott Krauss (drums), and Allen Ravenstine (synthesizer). The band’s name comes from the protagonist Pere Ubu in Alfred Jarry’s play ‘Ubu Roi.’

In the mid-1970s, they released their first single ’30 Seconds Over Tokyo,’ which gained them some attention in the underground music scene. Their debut album, ‘The Modern Dance,’ was released in 1978 and is considered a seminal work in the post-punk genre.
