Psychic TV – Beyond Thee Infinite Beat – Double Vinyl Record

Beyond Thee Infinite Beat is an album by Psychic TV, released in 1990. This album represents a continuation of the band’s exploration into acid house and techno music, genres they had begun to incorporate more prominently into their sound with their prior release, ‘Towards Thee Infinite Beat.’ Psychic TV, originally founded by Genesis P-Orridge and Peter Christopherson (formerly of Throbbing Gristle), is known for its highly experimental style, blending elements from a variety of musical genres, including industrial, psychedelic, and electronic music.

Beyond Thee Infinite Beat can be seen as an extension of its predecessor, aiming to delve deeper into the dance-oriented aspects of their music. The album is characterized by repetitive, hypnotic rhythms and layered electronic textures, creating a trance-like atmosphere that was designed to be both meditative and physically engaging. The tracks are often remixes or reworkings of earlier material, reflecting the band’s interest in continual evolution and reinterpretation of their own work.

The album includes a mix of instrumental tracks and those with vocals, with lyrics that often touch on themes of transcendence, spirituality, and personal transformation—common motifs in Psychic TV’s discography. The use of samples, a staple in their music, contributes to the album’s rich sonic tapestry, adding layers of meaning and enhancing the overall psychedelic experience.

Beyond Thee Infinite Beat is a testament to Psychic TV’s role in the crossover between avant-garde music and the emerging rave culture of the late 1980s and early 1990s. It showcases their ability to innovate and influence across musical boundaries, making it a significant release for fans of experimental and electronic music.
