Subhumans - Internal Riot – Vinyl Record
Internal Riot is an album by the Subhumans, an influential British punk band known for their politically charged lyrics and raw, energetic sound. Released in 2007, this album marked the band’s return after a lengthy hiatus and reestablished them as a formidable force in the punk scene. The Subhumans’ music typically blends elements of punk rock and anarcho-punk, with sharp critiques of societal issues, government policies, and human rights themes.
Internal Riot continues the tradition of the Subhumans’ engagement with social and political themes, delivering their message through fast-paced rhythms, aggressive guitar riffs, and the distinctive, snarling vocals of frontman Dick Lucas. The album explores various topics, including corporate greed, media manipulation, and personal freedom, maintaining the band’s relevance and appeal to both old fans and new listeners who resonate with punk’s critical voice against oppression and injustice.
Musically, the album incorporates the classic punk sound while experimenting with some structural complexities that show the band’s evolution over the years. Tracks like ‘This Year’s War’ and ‘Supermarket Forces’ reflect the band’s knack for catchy, yet deeply meaningful lyrics and energetic performances.
Internal Riot is a significant addition to the Subhumans’ discography, demonstrating their continued commitment to challenging the status quo and inspiring listeners to think critically about the world around them. The album is a must-listen for fans of punk music, especially those who appreciate its more radical and thought-provoking expressions.
