Almighty – Just Add Life / Just Add Live – Double Compact Disc
Just Add Life is the fifth studio album by the Scottish rock band The Almighty, released in March 1996 by Chrysalis Records. This album marked the band’s final release before they split up and later reunited for their self-titled album in 2000. Produced by Chris Sheldon, Just Add Life incorporates a mix of hard rock and heavy metal, featuring both raw energy and melodic elements that defined the band’s style.
The album includes notable singles such as ‘All Sussed Out’ and ‘Do You Understand,’ both of which were accompanied by music videos. Another significant track is ‘Coalition Star,’ co-written with members of the punk band The Ruts, highlighting lead vocalist Ricky Warwick’s admiration for their work. The album was also released as a two-disc set, with the second disc titled ‘Just Add Live,’ featuring live recordings from a performance in Osaka, Japan, in 1995.
The band’s lineup for this album consisted of Ricky Warwick on vocals and guitars, Pete Friesen on guitars, Floyd London on bass and vocals, and Stump Munroe on drums. Additional contributions included harmonica by Mark Feltham and Hammond B3 organ by James Taylor on select tracks, adding depth and variety to the album’s sound.
Just Add Life was well-received within the rock community, appreciated for its robust production and energetic performances. Although it didn’t propel The Almighty into mainstream success, it solidified their cult status and showcased their consistent ability to deliver powerful rock music.
