Poison Idea – We Must Burn – Cassette

We Must Burn is an album by the American hardcore punk band Poison Idea. The band is known for their aggressive and intense sound, which contributed to their status as a prominent figure in the hardcore punk scene.

Poison Idea’s music is characterized by its fast tempo, heavy guitar riffs, and raw energy. We Must Burn embodys these elements, reflecting the band’s confrontational style and social commentary. The song’s title suggests a sense of urgency and rebellion, which aligns with the ethos of many hardcore punk bands.

Just a brutal hard rock record, We Must Burn was also Poison Idea’s return to the killing floor, and, therefore, it’s a way to continue proving a point. If the point is that Poison Idea had more than enough power, fury, brawn, and ability to reinstate their place at the banquet hall, then point proven and point taken.

Though many listeners regarded We Must Burn with suspicion, crying commercialization, that’s really not quite the case. Sure, even though there are a number of pure, unvarnished hard rock moments on this album, this album is not far removed from, say, Blank, Blackout, Vacant.

A good rock band is a good rock band, and should therefore play and write to the fullest of their abilities. Poison Idea’s abilities are abundant, and this album showcases them. Songs like ‘Hard and Cheap’ sound like Molly Hatchet just released from a year in hard labor camp, while ‘Not the Last’ is a driving, soaring, keyboard-inflected gem.

Lyrically, Poison Idea often tackled themes related to social issues, personal struggles, and anti-authoritarianism. We Must Burn addresses issues ranging from political unrest to personal empowerment, using the direct and often unfiltered approach that’s common in the hardcore punk genre.

The band’s music often carries an attitude of defiance and an emphasis on expressing oneself without compromise. This approach was a hallmark of many hardcore punk bands, and Poison Idea was no exception.

Given the context of hardcore punk, We Must Burn showcases Poison Idea’s unapologetic sound and their willingness to address pressing societal concerns head-on. The album also incorporate the DIY (do-it-yourself) ethos that was prevalent within the hardcore punk scene.

We Must Burn by Poison Idea is expected to be a song that captures the band’s aggressive and intense hardcore punk sound, addressing social issues and promoting a sense of defiance and empowerment. The song likely embodies the raw energy and directness that define Poison Idea’s approach to music and lyrics.
