Pleasant Gehman is an American author, poet, actress, dancer, and musician known for her contributions to the Los Angeles punk scene and her diverse artistic endeavors.
In 1994, she released Ruined, a spoken-word album that showcases her distinctive storytelling and poetic style.
Ruined features a collection of tracks that blend personal anecdotes, social commentary, and vivid imagery, reflecting Gehman’s experiences and perspectives. The album includes pieces like ‘Contents of Purse, January 1992,’ ‘Season of the Witch,’ and ‘The Wild West Club,’ each offering a glimpse into her multifaceted life and artistic vision.
The production of Ruined involved collaboration with various musicians and producers. Notably, the track ‘Cookin’ With Ray’ features original music by Rayner DeMichele, and ‘Las Estrellas’ includes contributions from Dennis Eveland and Phillipe Fanjeaud, with Spanish translations by Marisela Norte.
The album was engineered by Jim Latham at Theta Sound Studio in Burbank, California, and Dennis Eveland at Madhouse Studio in Canoga Park, California.
