Balls is the seventeenth studio album by Sparks, released in 2000. By this point in their long and eclectic career, brothers Ron Mael and Russell Mael had already spent decades redefining their musical identity, moving through glam rock, art pop, electronic music, and experimental pop styles. Balls represents one of their more electronic-oriented releases, continuing the synth-driven direction the band had explored in the late 1990s.
The album leans heavily on electronic dance influences, combining pulsing synthesizers, programmed beats, and sleek digital production. Compared with some earlier Sparks albums that balanced guitars and keyboards, Balls places the electronic elements firmly at the center of the sound.
