Clairo – Charm – Target Exclusive Three-Color Striped Vinyl Record
Charm is Clairo’s third album and a warm, patient exploration of attraction, hesitation, intimacy, and the desire to be understood without having to perform certainty. Co-produced by Clairo and Leon Michels, the record was shaped through live playing and an analog-minded studio approach. Its sound draws on 1970s soul, jazz, soft rock, and psychedelic folk, but the details remain personal: close vocals, rounded bass, woodwinds, percussion, keyboards, and guitar create spaces that feel inhabited rather than reconstructed.
“Nomad” opens with distance already built into the relationship, balancing the appeal of freedom against the wish to be known. “Sexy to Someone” turns a modest desire for recognition into one of the album’s most immediate hooks, while “Second Nature” allows attraction to feel lighter and more instinctive. Clairo’s writing often depends on qualification—what she wants, what she might want, and what she cannot yet say directly—and the relaxed arrangements give those small emotional turns room to register.
“Slow Dance” and “Thank You” complete the first side by looking at closeness from opposite directions. One lingers in suspended connection, while the other can make gratitude sound like farewell, acceptance, or self-protection. The band rarely forces a dramatic climax. Instead, grooves shift under the vocal, a horn or keyboard enters at the edge of the frame, and the emotional meaning changes through accumulation. That restraint makes the side feel continuous even when each song keeps a separate identity.
The second side opens with the playful instrumental character of “Terrapin” before “Juna” settles into one of the album’s most supple rhythms. “Add Up My Love” asks whether affection can be measured after a relationship has changed, and “Echo” lets memory behave like sound returning from a distance. The music’s softness does not mean the feelings are simple; warmth can conceal doubt, and an elegant groove can hold a question that the singer has no intention of resolving too quickly.
“Glory of the Snow” and “Pier 4” close Charm in reflective territory. The final song’s images of shoreline, departure, and emotional exposure leave the album open rather than neatly concluded. Across all eleven tracks, Clairo and Michels favor ensemble conversation: instruments respond to the vocal and to one another, giving repeated listens new details to follow. The record works especially well as two vinyl sides, with each half forming a measured arc and the side break providing a natural pause.
This first-anniversary Target-exclusive edition is pressed on a limited three-color striped record in yellow, light blue, and purple. It comes in a gatefold jacket with a printed inner sleeve and contains the complete eleven-song album. The unusual striped pressing is the defining feature and should not be confused with standard black, purple, pink, or other colored variants. A sealed copy preserves both the record’s surface and the anniversary packaging as originally issued.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
