Failure – Location Lost – Vinyl Record
Location Lost is Failure’s seventh studio album and the trio’s first full-length release in roughly five years. Ken Andrews, Greg Edwards, and Kellii Scott return to the dense alternative space-rock language that has made the band a long-term influence on musicians across shoegaze, metal, and post-hardcore. The nine-song record does not simply repeat the scale of Fantastic Planet; it focuses that atmosphere through older perspectives, physical vulnerability, and a modern studio clarity that keeps every unusual texture audible.
“Crash Test Delayed” opens patiently, allowing electronic pulses and suspended guitar tones to establish unease before the band reveals its full weight. “The Rising Skyline” features Hayley Williams, whose voice enters the slow-building arrangement without turning it into a conventional guest showcase. Her long-standing admiration for Failure gives the collaboration context, but the song works because her tone becomes another layer inside the band’s mixture of distance, gravity, and melodic release.
“Solid State” and “The Air’s on Fire” bring the first side toward a heavier physical intensity. The latter is connected to Andrews’s recovery from serious back surgery, giving the song’s pressure and instability a lived foundation. Failure has always used technology, bodies, and damaged environments as overlapping images, and these tracks continue that method. Guitars can sound architectural one moment and almost liquid the next, while Scott’s drumming prevents the atmosphere from becoming static.
The second side begins with “Halo and Grain” and “Someday Soon,” two songs that balance the band’s precision with a more exposed emotional center. The title track turns dislocation into both a place and a state of mind. “A Way Down” becomes leaner and more introspective, leaving space around the vocal and rhythm. Across these songs, the album’s restraint matters as much as distortion; a quiet passage can make the next change in density feel enormous.
“Moonlight Understands” closes the record with an image of recognition that does not require a simple explanation. The concise nine-track structure gives Location Lost a deliberate arc, from mechanical delay and rising threat toward a final nocturnal calm. It follows the band’s 2025 documentary Every Time You Lose Your Mind, but the music stands independently as a current statement from a group still interested in risk, texture, and the emotional possibilities of controlled volume.
This Arduous Records edition is a single black vinyl LP housed in a gatefold jacket and released in April 2026. Its UPC identifies the standard retail pressing and should not be confused with limited retailer variants on metallic silver or other colors. The package contains the complete nine-song album, including “The Rising Skyline” with Hayley Williams, in a format that gives the cover’s surreal space imagery and the record’s wide dynamics an appropriately large physical presentation.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
