“A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More ‘Touch Me’” brings theatrical pop instinct to the late sequence, while “Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying” piles voices and declarations into a tense penultimate statement. “XO” closes on a darker romantic note rather than a simple victory lap. The album’s combination of humor, melodrama, literary references, and precision made it a model for the mid-2000s emo-pop explosion and remains central to Fall Out Boy’s catalog.
