Stick Season is Noah Kahan's third studio album, a fourteen-song account of distance, home, mental health, and the uneasy period after a relationship and a season have both changed. Written during time back in Vermont, the record turns New England roads, weather, family houses, and small-town memory into more than scenery. Acoustic guitar and folk-rooted arrangements support lyrics that are conversational, specific, and often self-questioning. The album's title names the bare interval after the leaves fall and before sustained snow arrives.
“Northern Attitude” opens by connecting guarded behavior to geography and upbringing, while the title track compresses abandonment, resentment, and local stagnation into a rapidly moving refrain. “All My Love” remembers a relationship with warmth even after its future has disappeared. “She Calls Me Back” and “Come Over” explore the desire to be known while expecting rejection. Kahan's delivery can move from close, almost spoken detail to a chorus meant for a crowd, making private anxiety feel communal without removing its discomfort.
“New Perspective” looks at change in a hometown and in the narrator's own assumptions. “Everywhere, Everything” imagines devotion through images of decay, giving a romantic promise an unusually physical edge. “Orange Juice” addresses recovery, absence, and the complicated welcome offered when someone returns to familiar people after sobriety has altered the relationship. Its patient arrangement allows pauses and repeated invitations to carry as much weight as explanation, demonstrating the album's ability to slow down without becoming emotionally vague.
“Strawberry Wine” and “Growing Sideways” turn memory and therapy into narratives about the strategies people use to remain functional. The latter is especially direct about mistaking survival for progress. “Halloween” places emotional distance against seasonal imagery, and “Homesick” mixes frustration with attachment to a place the narrator has repeatedly wanted to leave. Humor and bitterness often occupy the same line. That tension prevents the album's regional detail from becoming either simple celebration or simple escape story.
“Still” studies the remains of intimacy, while “The View Between Villages” closes with a drive that briefly restores the sensations and losses attached to home. Road noise, rising instrumentation, and remembered voices turn movement through the landscape into an emotional summation. Across the record, Gabe Simon's production keeps banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, percussion, and layered vocals clear enough to support Kahan's storytelling. The folk framework serves contemporary songs about medication, therapy, social disconnection, and the persistence of family history.
