SOUR is Olivia Rodrigo's debut album, an eleven-song account of heartbreak, jealousy, anger, memory, and the sudden changes surrounding the end of a formative relationship. Written primarily with producer Daniel Nigro, it moves between intimate piano ballads, acoustic confession, alternative-rock guitars, and pop-punk release. “1 step forward, 3 steps back” uses an unstable pattern of affection and withdrawal, while “deja vu” watches shared experiences being repeated with somebody new. “good 4 u” closes the first side by converting resentment into a bright, aggressive pop-rock performance. Rodrigo can sound restrained, observational, or openly furious, and the side sequence lets those modes respond to one another. Nigro's arrangements often begin close to the vocal before adding drums, guitars, harmony, and dynamic contrast as thoughts become harder to contain.
The second side opens with “enough for you,” an acoustic reflection on changing oneself to meet expectations that never stop moving. “happier” admits the uncomfortable desire for a former partner to be well, but not better off than before. “jealousy, jealousy” directs comparison toward social media, beauty, money, and the curated lives of strangers. The song widens the album beyond one breakup, showing how the same insecurity can be reinforced by an endless field of people against whom a young person is invited to measure herself.
“favorite crime” uses complicity as a metaphor for remaining loyal to someone who causes harm. “hope ur ok” closes by addressing people from the narrator's past whose families failed to accept or protect them. Its compassion changes the album's focus from private heartbreak toward survival and chosen support, allowing the final track to recognize pain without centering the singer in every story. Across SOUR, direct language and strong melodies make the record accessible, while ambivalence keeps the emotions from resolving into a simple account of blame.

It features an exclusive cover and a 24-page poster folder alongside the complete eleven-track album.
