Snoop Dogg – Missionary – Target Exclusive Compact Disc
Missionary reunites Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre for a full album more than thirty years after Doggystyle established their partnership as one of West Coast hip-hop's defining combinations. Dre produces the project from beginning to end, giving its fifteen-track physical sequence a unified foundation while Snoop adjusts his delivery to changing tempos, samples, and guest voices. The title deliberately echoes Doggystyle, but the album is not designed as a recreation of 1993. It places their shared chemistry inside contemporary studio production.
“Fore Play,” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid, functions as an entrance before “Shangri-La” and “Outta da Blue” move into contrasting moods. Dr. Dre and Alus appear on the latter, making the producer's vocal presence part of the performance as well as the construction. “Hard Knocks” emphasizes resilience, while “Gorgeous,” featuring Jhené Aiko, changes the texture through a smoother melodic exchange. The sequence is paced to move between hard drums, reflective passages, humor, and polished crossover hooks.
“Last Dance with Mary Jane” builds around the music and legacy of Tom Petty, with Jelly Roll joining the track. The combination connects rock familiarity, country-inflected vocal character, and hip-hop production without treating the sample as background decoration. “Pressure,” featuring Dre and K.A.A.N., returns to a more direct rhythmic attack. “Another Part of Me,” with Sting, creates another cross-genre collaboration, using a recognizable voice while allowing Snoop's phrasing to remain the organizing personality.
Method Man and Smitty appear on “Skyscrapers,” linking different regional and generational rap histories. “Fire” features Cocoa Sarai, and “Gunz N Smoke” brings together 50 Cent and Eminem over Dre's production. That guest lineup could overwhelm a less consistent album, but Snoop's relaxed timing gives the project a stable point of view. He can sit behind the beat, sharpen a consonant for emphasis, or make a boast sound conversational even when the surrounding arrangement is dense.
The closing run includes “Sticcy Situation,” “Now or Never,” “Gangsta Pose,” and “The Negotiator.” K.A.A.N., Cocoa Sarai, BJ the Chicago Kid, Dem Jointz, Stalone, and Fat Money contribute across those tracks. The physical CD program contains fifteen songs and omits the digital-only “Thank You,” so its sequence ends with “The Negotiator.”
