T Bone Burnett – The Other Side – Vinyl Record
The Other Side brings T Bone Burnett back to the singer-songwriter foreground after years spent shaping landmark recordings for other artists. Written and recorded in a concentrated three-week stretch, the 2024 album trades the dense electronics of his Invisible Light projects for wood, wire, breath, and room sound. Burnett’s weathered voice sits at the center of songs that feel plainspoken without ever becoming simple.
Acoustic guitars, dobro, upright bass, mandolin, hand percussion, and carefully placed electric color give the record a country-blues foundation. Colin Linden and Mike Piersante co-produced with Burnett, preserving the grain of the performances instead of polishing it away. “He Came Down” opens with a near-spiritual gravity, while “Come Back (When You Go Away)” turns longing into a melody that feels both old and newly written.
The guest voices are used as part of the storytelling rather than decoration. Rosanne Cash joins “(I’m Gonna Get Over This) Some Day,” Lucius lends close harmony to several pieces, Weyes Blood appears on “The Race Is Won,” and Steven Soles reconnects with Burnett on “The First Light of Day.” Their entrances widen the emotional frame while leaving Burnett’s dry, measured delivery in control.
Across the second side, the album moves from doubt toward a hard-earned kind of consolation. “Sometimes I Wonder” and “Everything and Nothing” carry philosophical weight in compact forms, while “The Town That Time Forgot” has the detail of a short story. Even at its most reflective, the music avoids grand gestures; the arrangements trust silence, resonance, and the character of each player.
Released by Verve Forecast, this vinyl edition presents the complete twelve-song album in its original two-side sequence. It is a strong physical counterpart to a record built around tactile acoustic sound, natural dynamics, and performances that reward attention to small details rather than sheer volume.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
