Description

Jimmy Buffett – Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes – Vinyl Record

Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes is the album that carried Jimmy Buffett from a respected Gulf Coast songwriter to a much larger audience. Released in 1977, it refines the mixture of country, folk, rock, and Caribbean rhythm that would define his catalog. The songs are full of travel and escape, but they also understand that a change of location does not automatically solve the problems a traveler brings along.

The title song opens with movement as both subject and remedy. “Wonder Why We Ever Go Home” questions the pull of ordinary responsibility, while Steve Goodman’s “Banana Republics” looks at expatriates with sympathy and skepticism. “Tampico Trauma” adds comic danger, and Jesse Winchester’s “Lovely Cruise” closes the first side with a graceful farewell that became a natural concert ending.

“Margaritaville” begins the second side and became Buffett’s signature song because its humor contains real self-knowledge. The narrator gradually admits responsibility for his own situation, turning a tropical setting into a compact character study. “In the Shelter” revisits an earlier Buffett composition with a smoother arrangement, and “Miss You So Badly” brings distance and attachment into direct focus.

“Biloxi,” written by Jesse Winchester, is one of the album’s quietest and most atmospheric performances. “Landfall” closes with the relief and danger associated with coming ashore. Norbert Putnam’s production keeps acoustic instruments, electric guitar, and rhythm section clear, allowing Buffett’s lyrics to remain conversational even as the choruses broaden.

This MCA Records vinyl edition presents the original ten-track album and is identified by UPC 602465571615. The single-LP sequence runs from the title song through “Landfall,” preserving the exact program that established “Margaritaville” within a richer album of travel narratives, covers, humor, and reflection.

Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
