Lady Gaga – Dawn of Chromatica – Clear Vinyl Record

Dawn of Chromatica does not simply add club mixes to Lady Gaga’s 2020 album. Executive producer BloodPop invites a wide group of electronic and pop artists to dismantle the original songs and rebuild them according to their own musical languages. Hyperpop, industrial rhythm, house, drum and bass and experimental sound design continually interrupt one another, turning the familiar sequence into a more unruly companion work.

LSDXOXO’s version of “Alice” establishes the project’s harder physical edge, and Coucou Chloe makes “Stupid Love” feel sparse and confrontational. Arca’s treatment of “Rain on Me” is an early centerpiece, breaking the duet into unstable rhythmic pieces before its recognizable hooks reappear. These tracks reward listeners who know Chromatica, but they function as complete productions rather than annotations to the originals.

The collaborators frequently change the emotional weight of a song. Rina Sawayama joins Clarence Clarity for a guitar-heavy “Free Woman,” while Pabllo Vittar turns “Fun Tonight” toward Brazilian club energy. Charli XCX and A. G. Cook transform “911” into a restless suite of digital textures and new vocals. Ashnikko’s appearance on “Plastic Doll” adds bite to a lyric already concerned with image, control and disposability.

The second half stays deliberately unpredictable. Dorian Electra pushes “Replay” toward theatrical industrial pop, Bree Runway and Jimmy Edgar give “Babylon” a sleek new strut, and Shygirl enters the Mura Masa remix of “Sour Candy.” Planningtorock’s “1000 Doves” offers a comparatively spacious release before the Haus Labs version of “Babylon” closes the album by reconnecting the experiment to Gaga’s own archive.

This 2022 Interscope pressing presents all thirteen remixes on clear vinyl. The transparent disc suits a project that treats the original album as material to be refracted, layered and seen from another angle. It is a substantial alternate version of Chromatica, not a duplicate purchase: vocals, arrangements and production choices differ throughout, making it especially useful for listeners interested in the adventurous electronic community surrounding Gaga’s pop work.

Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
