Glenn Danzig – Black Aria II – Black and Red Vinyl Record

Black Aria II returns Glenn Danzig to the wordless, classically influenced territory of his first Black Aria. Rather than building songs around a rock-band lineup, he uses keyboards, orchestral colors, voices and percussion to create a compact suite inspired by Lilith and related traditions of ancient demonology. The music is dark and ceremonial, but it is also melodic; recurring themes give the album continuity beyond its individual titles.

“Overture: Winged Night Demon” establishes the scale through massed voices and an ominous central motif. “Abbandonment/Recreation” moves between sparse tension and fuller orchestration, while “Zemaragad” introduces sharper rhythmic motion. Danzig approaches these pieces as scenes rather than verse-chorus compositions. Sounds enter, develop and disappear according to atmosphere, giving the first side the momentum of a score for an unseen mythic drama.

“Lamia” and “Bridal Ceremony of the Lilitu” deepen the record’s ritual character. The latter uses repetition and choral texture to close the first side at its most theatrical point. Although the album draws from classical vocabulary, it is not an attempt at academic concert music. Its heavy low register, gothic imagery and direct emotional contrasts keep it connected to the same sensibility behind Danzig’s rock and metal recordings.

The second side begins with “Unclean Sephira” before the brief “LCKR” changes the pacing. “The Succubus Feeds” and “Shiddin” develop the suite’s most threatening passages, while “Demons Reprise” recalls earlier material and strengthens the sense of a complete cycle. “Lamenta Lilith” closes in a reflective mode, allowing the tension to recede rather than ending with a conventional hard stop.

This Evilive and Cleopatra edition is pressed on black vinyl with red haze and housed in a gatefold jacket. Catalog number CLO3712 identifies the 2023 pressing. The color treatment complements the red-and-black artwork without altering the program, which includes all twelve instrumental movements. It is a fitting edition for listeners interested in Danzig’s compositional work beyond the expected guitar-driven catalog.

Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
