Various Artists – Sunshine Setlist – Target Exclusive Translucent Blue Vinyl Record

Sunshine Setlist brings together ten songs that suit a bright, easygoing pop compilation without sticking to a single decade. Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the Black Eyed Peas, La Roux, and the Cardigans share the first side with Glass Animals; Avicii, Lorde, Taio Cruz, the Go-Go's, and Sublime take the second. The selection mixes dance-pop, alternative pop, and guitar-based favorites, giving the record a familiar feel while leaving room for a few changes of pace. This Target-exclusive edition is pressed on translucent blue vinyl.

“Murder on the Dancefloor” is a fitting opener. It establishes the dance floor as one of the record's main settings, followed by the expansive party-pop of “I Gotta Feeling” and the crisp electronic sound of “Bulletproof.” Those three tracks share an immediate pop appeal, but their production styles differ enough to keep the first side from settling into one texture. Ellis-Bextor's poised vocal, the Black Eyed Peas' group energy, and La Roux's distinctive synth-pop approach each bring their own personality.

The Cardigans' “Lovefool” introduces a lighter guitar-pop sound, and “Heat Waves” brings the side forward to Glass Animals' more recent crossover success. The collection works especially well in these small shifts between eras. It does not require the songs to come from the same moment or scene; their hooks provide the common ground. The result is a sampler of recognizable pop records, with the first side moving easily between electronic production and band-based arrangements.

On the second side, “The Nights,” “Supercut,” and “Dynamite” keep the emphasis on large choruses and pop momentum. The closing pair changes the setting. The Go-Go's “Vacation” supplies the directness of an early-1980s pop band, while Sublime's “Doin' Time” ends the record with a laid-back rhythmic feel. That final shift is a useful part of the sequence, allowing the compilation to relax after its more emphatic dance-oriented selections.

This is a limited-edition, single-LP compilation with five tracks per side. The translucent blue pressing gives this version its specific identity, while the running order stays concise and easy to get acquainted with. Sunshine Setlist is a good fit for listeners who like collections that move across pop styles without turning into a sprawling survey. Its pleasures are straightforward: ten recognizable songs, ten different artists, and enough variety to move from a party chorus to a slower summer-afternoon groove.
