Forced Entry – So Above So Below – Cassette
As Above, So Below is the second and final full-length studio album by the American thrash metal band Forced Entry, released on June 14, 1991, through Relativity Records.
Following their 1989 debut, Uncertain Future, Forced Entry returned to the studio in December 1990 to record As Above, So Below at Normandy Sound in Warren, Rhode Island. The album was produced by Tom Soares and showcases the band’s evolution towards a more technical and progressive thrash metal style, incorporating elements of punk and groove metal.
The album is noted for its diverse tones and complex song structures, featuring tempo changes and technical instrumentation. It includes tracks like ‘Macrocosm, Microcosm’ and ‘Never a Know, But the No,’ the latter being a power ballad that highlights the band’s versatility. Music videos for both songs were produced, with ‘Never a Know, But the No’ featuring a cameo by members of Alice in Chains.
The album received positive reviews for its technical proficiency and creative compositions. AllMusic’s Jason Anderson awarded it three stars out of five, noting that it ‘boasts a punchier sound and slightly more technical material than prior efforts by the band.’ Brad Hull’s guitar work, in particular, was highlighted as impressive, with the rhythm section also delivering powerful performances.
Formed in 1983 in Seattle, Washington, Forced Entry was known for their technical thrash metal style. The band consisted of Tony Benjamins (vocals, bass), Brad Hull (guitar), and Colin Mattson (drums). They released two full-length albums before disbanding in the mid-1990s. Their contributions to the thrash metal scene, particularly in the Pacific Northwest, have been recognized for their technical skill and innovation.
