Means To An End – Means To An End – Cassette
Futurist Records
There are perhaps 1000 bands right now that are mining a space between industry blockbusters Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Smashing Pumpkins, a sort of moody, weird, metal-grunge with minor punk chops.
Such a band is Means to an End, who proved by their participation in the (Mortal) Micronotz tribute LP that they can kick it, as they do here, wonderfully, on the opening ‘Breaking Dummy.’ Too bad there’s not more of this, as tracks such as ‘Ten-Fold’ come across with much mid-’70s damage, Black Sabbath/Deep Purple/AC/DC/Zep/Nugent bigfoot-stomp, with a singer J.D. Warnock that could have been in Mountain or Boston (or Soundgarden). Of course, that’s progressive for some these days, in both the charts and college radio. For gonzo ’70s grungers only, who will likely love this
