Girlschool is a British all-female rock band that emerged in the late 1970s during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement. The band was formed in 1978 in London. The original lineup consisted of Kim McAuliffe (vocals, guitar), Kelly Johnson (guitar, vocals), Enid Williams (bass, vocals), and Denise Dufort (drums).
Girlschool gained recognition for their energetic and raw approach to rock and metal. They toured extensively with iconic bands like Motörhead, with whom they also collaborated on the hit single “Please Don’t Touch.” The collaboration showcased their ability to blend punk and metal influences.
Some of Girlschool’s well-known albums include “Demolition” (1980), “Hit and Run” (1981), and “Screaming Blue Murder” (1982). Their music often features catchy melodies, aggressive guitar riffs, and the distinctive vocals of Kim McAuliffe.
While their commercial success varied, Girlschool has maintained a dedicated fan base over the years. They are recognized as pioneers in the field of all-female rock and metal bands.
