PJ Harvey – B-Sides, Demos & Rarities – Three Compact Disc Set

Description

PJ Harvey – B-Sides, Demos & Rarities – Three Compact Disc Set

B-Sides, Demos & Rarities gathers three decades of PJ Harvey recordings that previously sat at the edges of the main album catalog. The 59-track collection begins with raw four-track work from the Dry and Rid of Me period, then follows her changing writing methods through soundtrack commissions, one-off collaborations, and recent archival discoveries.

The earliest demos are especially revealing because Harvey’s guitar attack, vocal phrasing, and arrangement ideas are already sharply defined. Alternate forms of “Dry,” “Man-Size,” “Missed,” and “Me-Jane” sit beside period B-sides such as “Daddy,” “Maniac,” “Harder,” and “Naked Cousin,” restoring the wider context around the first two albums.

As the chronology moves forward, the collection becomes stylistically broader. Instrumentals, restrained ballads, and studio experiments accompany songs connected to To Bring You My Love, Is This Desire?, and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea. Tracks such as “Sweeter Than Anything,” “Memphis,” “66 Promises,” and “As Close as This” show how much strong material remained outside the standard albums.

The later discs include demos from Uh Huh Her and Let England Shake-era work, political pieces, and music written for film and television. “The Camp,” “An Acre of Land,” and “The Crowded Cell” demonstrate Harvey’s ability to alter her writing for a specific dramatic setting without losing her unmistakable economy and atmosphere.

This three-CD edition presents the collection in chronological order and includes a substantial booklet. Its scale makes it both an alternate history for longtime listeners and a practical home for recordings that were formerly scattered across singles, promotional releases, soundtracks, and limited editions.

Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
