The Rolling Stones’ Goats Head Soup is the band’s 11th studio album, originally released on August 31, 1973 on Rolling Stones Records. It was produced by Jimmy Miller, who had overseen their late-’60s/early-’70s run, and it was recorded between November 25, 1972 and February 5, 1973, primarily at Dynamic Sound Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, with additional work in Los Angeles (The Village) and London (Island Studios). Made during the group’s period as tax exiles, the album reflects a slightly different approach from Exile on Main St.—still rooted in blues-based rock, but with more emphasis on tight arrangements, funk-inflected grooves, and a smoother, more polished studio sound.
The album runs 10 tracks (46:56) and includes several key songs from the Stones’ early-’70s catalogue. Lead single “Angie” became one of their biggest worldwide hits, reaching No. 1 in the U.S. and Top 5 in the U.K. The record also features staples like “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)” and fan favorites such as “Dancing with Mr. D,” “100 Years Ago,” “Coming Down Again,” “Silver Train,” and “Star Star.” Across the tracklist, Mick Jagger’s vocals and Keith Richards’ guitar work remain central, while the rhythm section leans into a more syncopated, groove-forward feel than on some of the band’s earlier, more ragged recordings.
