Released in 1990, Allroy Saves is the third studio album by ALL, the band formed by former members of Descendents after Milo Aukerman left to pursue his academic career. Following the experimental Allroy’s Revenge (1989), Allroy Saves continues the band’s unique blend of melodic punk, hardcore, and progressive elements, with an added touch of maturity in both songwriting and production.
ALL was formed by Bill Stevenson (drums), Karl Alvarez (bass), and Stephen Egerton (guitar)—all of whom played in Descendents—along with vocalist Scott Reynolds, who brought a distinctive, more melodic approach to the band’s sound. While Descendents leaned more toward fast, catchy punk with themes of adolescence and rebellion, ALL took a slightly different path, incorporating more technical instrumentation, complex arrangements, and introspective lyrics.
On Allroy Saves, the band maintains their high-energy pop-punk and hardcore foundation but introduces more melodic and diverse songwriting, giving the album a dynamic and evolving feel. The title and artwork feature Allroy, the band’s signature cartoon mascot, continuing his chaotic misadventures that began on Allroy Sez (1988) and Allroy’s Revenge (1989).
