Avril Lavigne – Avril Lavigne – Double Vinyl Record
Avril Lavigne’s self-titled fifth album uses a broad pop palette to revisit several sides of her musical personality. Released in 2013, it moves from the raised-glass defiance of “Rock N Roll” and “Here’s to Never Growing Up” to ballads, heavier collaborations, and electronic pop. The title suggests a personal statement, but the record’s identity comes from its variety as much as its autobiography. Lavigne’s sharply recognizable voice gives those changes a common center, whether she is singing with a sneer or letting a melody soften.
The opening songs emphasize youth as an attitude rather than simply a period of life. “Here’s to Never Growing Up” turns that idea into an immediately accessible chorus, while “17” looks back more specifically at teenage experience. “Bitchin’ Summer” continues the bright, communal feel. These songs preserve the directness that made Lavigne’s earlier pop-rock records connect with listeners, but their production belongs to a later stage in her career, with polished layers and a greater willingness to move beyond guitar-band arrangements.
“Let Me Go,” a duet with Chad Kroeger, introduces a different scale of drama. The two voices give the ballad a conversational dimension, while “Give You What You Like” works in a more restrained and shadowed setting. “Bad Girl,” featuring Marilyn Manson, pushes toward a heavier texture, and “Hello Kitty” makes one of the album’s sharpest stylistic turns into electronic pop. Those contrasts are unusually pronounced, making the album less a single mood than a survey of the directions Lavigne was willing to explore.
The later songs bring the focus back toward melody and emotional exposure. “Hello Heartache,” “Falling Fast,” and “Hush Hush” show how effectively her voice can carry quieter material without losing its personality. “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” and “Sippin’ on Sunshine” keep brighter colors in the sequence, so the reflective songs arrive as part of a larger range. The changes between confidence, playfulness, and vulnerability are central to the record’s character rather than incidental breaks between singles.
This double vinyl edition contains sixteen tracks, adding three recordings to the original thirteen-song album. “Rock N Roll (Acoustic)” revisits the opener from a different angle, while “Bad Reputation” and “How You Remind Me” place Lavigne’s voice against songs associated with Joan Jett and Nickelback. Those additions underline two of the album’s main instincts: allegiance to straightforward rock hooks and an interest in reshaping familiar material through her own delivery. The expanded program provides a fuller view of this varied chapter in her catalog.
