Description
Busta Rhymes – Blockbusta – Double Vinyl Record
Busta Rhymes approaches Blockbusta as a meeting place for several generations of rap and a wide range of collaborators. Released in 2023, the nineteen-track album has Busta working with executive producers Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, and Swizz Beatz, alongside his own role in shaping the project. His voice remains the defining presence: forceful, animated, and capable of changing the rhythm of a line almost before the listener has settled into it. The record gives that personality different settings, from spare beats to tracks built around melody and guest exchanges.
The Statement opens the album by putting Busta at the front of the room, and Remind 'Em introduces Quavo into the conversation. Beach Ball, with BIA, and Luxury Life, with Coi Leray, show the record's taste for collaborative singles with a clear hook. These pairings allow Busta to adjust his delivery around another voice without surrendering the character of his own performance. He has long been able to turn a short phrase into a rhythmic event, and Blockbusta gives that instinct plenty of opportunities to meet the different cadences of its featured rappers.
The guests also take the music beyond one particular rap scene. Burna Boy appears on Roboshotta, Shenseea joins Chris Brown on Open Wide, and Giggs brings his distinct voice to The Hive. Those connections broaden the album's musical setting, with Caribbean, African, and British perspectives entering a project led by a New York rapper. The Return of Mansa Musa adds Swizz Beatz and Blackway, drawing on a recognizable connection to Michael Jackson's Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. Busta's presence links these tracks even when the rhythms and vocal partners change around him.
Other collaborations give the album different kinds of weight. Young Thug joins OK, Blxst and Yung Bleu appear on Could It Be You, and DaBaby and T-Pain contribute to Big Everything. Homage pairs Busta with Kodak Black, while Legend features Morray. The guest list is large, but it creates a practical way to hear Busta's versatility: his emphatic phrasing can work against a sung part, a more relaxed rap performance, or another assertive voice. The interest lies in how the performers share the track, rather than simply in the number of names attached to it.
Legacy brings CIE, Trillian, and RAI into the program before If You Don't Know Now You Know Pt. 2 closes the album with Big Tigger. Those later tracks give Blockbusta room for subjects beyond the early singles' outward-facing energy. Across the nineteen selections, the record documents Busta staying involved with contemporary collaborators while retaining the delivery that made him immediately recognizable in the first place. It is a broad album, with its personality coming from the different encounters along the way and from a rapper who can still make a beat feel larger simply by entering it.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
