Chris Stapleton – Higher – Target Exclusive Baby Pink Double Vinyl Record
Higher is Chris Stapleton’s fifth studio album, a fourteen-song set that places his powerful voice inside a deliberately varied country framework. Produced by Dave Cobb, Chris Stapleton, and Morgane Stapleton, the record draws from country, Southern rock, soul, blues, and gospel without losing the directness of a working band. Its title suggests uplift, but the songs reach that feeling through uncertainty, devotion, fatigue, and hard-earned perspective rather than through simple reassurance.
“What Am I Gonna Do” opens with the aftermath of a relationship still occupying every part of the narrator’s life. “South Dakota” turns isolation into a wide landscape, and “Trust” asks what remains possible when certainty has been damaged. “It Takes a Woman” closes the first vinyl side with gratitude expressed through Stapleton’s grainy restraint and Morgane’s essential harmony presence. The arrangements give the vocals space, allowing breath, ache, and small shifts in emphasis to carry narrative weight.
The second side moves from “The Fire” into “Think I’m in Love with You,” one of the album’s clearest meetings of country songwriting and deep soul rhythm. “Loving You on My Mind” sustains the romantic focus while changing the emotional temperature. Stapleton can sing with enormous force, but Higher repeatedly shows his control at lower intensity. The band’s pockets, guitar tones, and background vocals make the quieter songs feel inhabited rather than merely stripped down.
“White Horse” begins the third side with a heavier, urgent charge. Its distorted guitar and driving rhythm turn a familiar western image into a demand for patience from someone not yet ready to become a rescuer. The title song “Higher” then reaches for a more open emotional register before “The Bottom” and “The Day I Die” bring love, addiction, mortality, and commitment into close conversation. Those contrasts make the double-album sequence feel purposeful rather than oversized.
The final side travels through “Crosswind,” “Weight of Your World,” and “Mountains of My Mind.” Motion and burden become connected images: roads can offer freedom, but thought and responsibility follow the traveler. “Mountains of My Mind” closes the album in reflective territory, leaving the voice and writing at the center. Played in order, Higher balances arena-scale vocal power with the intimacy of musicians listening closely to one another, a quality especially well suited to vinyl.
This Target-exclusive edition presses the complete album across two opaque baby pink 180-gram records. The color is specific to this retailer configuration and distinguishes it from standard black and other variants. Four vinyl sides preserve the published sequence and allow the louder rock performances and quieter country-soul passages room to breathe. A sealed copy keeps both records and their packaging together as issued, with the UPC confirming the exact baby pink Target pressing.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
