Creedence Clearwater Revival – Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits – Target Exclusive Metallic Copper Double Vinyl Record

Chronicle condenses Creedence Clearwater Revival’s extraordinary four-year run into twenty songs that helped define American roots rock. John Fogerty’s rasp, economical guitar writing and eye for vivid settings sit over a rhythm section that never confuses simplicity with stiffness. Swamp rock, country, R&B and rockabilly all appear, but the band’s identity is so strong that the shifts feel like different views of one landscape.

The first record moves from the long, hypnotic “Susie Q” and the shadowy “I Put a Spell on You” to the clean force of “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising.” “Lodi” gives touring frustration a whole town to inhabit, while “Green River” and “Down on the Corner” turn imagined places into memories. “Fortunate Son” then delivers one of rock’s sharpest class arguments in barely more than two minutes.

Record two holds an equally formidable run: “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” “Up Around the Bend,” “Run Through the Jungle” and “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” demonstrate how many moods Fogerty could draw from a direct arrangement. The extended “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” lets the group stretch into a deep groove before “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?,” “Hey Tonight” and the final singles bring the story toward its close.

The compilation succeeds because it preserves contrast. Bright choruses can carry anxiety; danceable rhythms can support political anger; a borrowed R&B song can become unmistakably Creedence. Stu Cook and Doug Clifford provide the grounded pulse, Tom Fogerty strengthens the early guitar sound, and John Fogerty’s production keeps the records immediate. Heard in sequence, the hits reveal a band with remarkable discipline as well as instinct.

Target’s exclusive edition presses the two LPs on metallic copper vinyl and includes a bumper sticker. UPC 888072398986 identifies this color-and-insert configuration, distinct from standard black copies. The visual treatment gives collectors a special version without altering the canonical twenty-song program, making it both an attractive shelf piece and an exceptionally efficient introduction to one of America’s great singles bands.

Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
