Daniel Hope & Air Ensemble – Irish Roots – Double Vinyl Records

Irish Roots is violinist Daniel Hope’s musical exploration of Ireland and of his own family connection to the country. Working with Air Ensemble, Lúnasa, harpist Siobhán Armstrong, singer Rea Garvey, flutists James and Jeanne Galway, and other guests, Hope moves between traditional tunes, baroque works, and newly arranged material.

The album opens with Lúnasa’s “Morning Nightcap,” followed by the air “Codladh an Óigfhir” and “Follow Me Up to Carlow.” Hope treats ornament and rhythmic lift as living practices, allowing traditional players to shape the arrangements rather than forcing the music into a standard classical presentation.

Baroque Ireland becomes part of the story through works by Thomas Roseingrave, Henry Purcell, Johann Sigismund Kusser, Francesco Geminiani, and others. These pieces show the traffic between Ireland and continental Europe, while Hope’s violin links courtly forms to the articulation and melodic turns of folk playing.

The large twenty-eight-track program also includes Carolan tunes, dance sets, contemporary collaborations, and orchestral passages with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra. The varied forces make the album a journey through several centuries rather than a single-style Celtic anthology.

This double-vinyl edition contains the complete physical program. Its contents and guest credits distinguish Irish Roots from a conventional violin recital or a short collection of traditional airs.

Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
