This is the U.S. black vinyl version of the 2003 BBC Radio Session from Electrelane, available from our webstore and bandcamp. Recorded in 2003, this powerful session from the Brighton
Electrelane’s BBC Radio Sessions Vol. 1 is a bracing, up-close document of the band in full motion—captured at the BBC in 2003 and issued as a limited 12″ / 45 RPM release in 2024 as part of the Beggars Arkive BBC Radio Sessions series. In the session setting, Electrelane’s sound feels even more physical and direct: interlocking organ and guitar lines, relentless motorik-style drums, and that unmistakable blend of post-punk tension and melodic lift. These performances don’t chase polish; they lean into momentum and force, emphasizing how tight and propulsive Electrelane could be when the songs were allowed to breathe and surge live in the room.
The tracklist is a strong snapshot of their early-2000s era, featuring “I Want To Be The President,” “U.O.R,” “This Deed,” and “The Valleys” in BBC session versions that hit with extra bite and immediacy. For fans, it’s an essential companion piece—part archive, part adrenaline shot—showing the band’s famous intensity with the mix turned toward performance over production. For newcomers, it’s a perfect entry point into what makes Electrelane special: music that’s disciplined but feral, minimalist but emotionally charged, and always moving forward like it can’t afford to stop.
