Ernie Lancaster – Ernestly – Vinyl Record

Ernestly is an album by American guitarist Ernie Lancaster, released in 1976.

Ernie Lancaster was known for his versatile guitar playing style, which encompassed elements of blues, rock, jazz, and funk. “Ernestly” showcases his talents as a musician and composer, featuring a mix of original compositions and cover songs.

The album includes tracks with dynamic guitar solos, catchy melodies, and tight rhythms. Ernie Lancaster’s playing style often emphasized groove and improvisation, creating a lively and engaging listening experience.

Ernestly is appreciated by fans of guitar-driven music for its skillful musicianship and energetic performances. Ernie Lancaster’s virtuosity and passion for music shine throughout the album, making it a memorable addition to his body of work.

Electric blues guitarist Ernie Lancaster played on albums by numerous artists throughout the ’80s and ’90s and released a solo album, Ernestly, in 1991. More than anything, Lancaster is perhaps best known as Root Boy Slim’s guitarist in the Sex Change Band.

He also played guitar for such artists as Ace Moreland, Kenny Neal, Lucky Peterson, Noble Watts, and Rev. Billy C. Wirtz. His solo album, Ernestly, featured the guitarist leading a small band through ten entirely instrumental songs that he had written. Over the course of the album, Lancaster veers from instrumental blues-rock to jazz-pop, and soul-jazz.

After playing as a sideman on albums by artists ranging from artists ranging from bluesmen Lucky Peterson and Kenny Neal to soul singer Rufus Thomas, Ernie Lancaster took center stage with the entirely instrumental Ernestly. Ranging from instrumental blues-rock to jazz-pop and soul-jazz, this little-known, under produced CD has a bar-band quality and avoids slickness. Much of the time, Ernestly makes you feel like you’re in an off-the-beaten-path (but certainly enjoyable) roadhouse in Kansas City, Milwaukee or upstate New York. Next to Lancaster’s guitar solos, one of the main reasons to hear this album is the fact that Peterson is prominently featured.

Although Peterson is a fine blues singer, he doesn’t do any singing at all on Ernestly. Rather, Peterson is heard as an instrumentalist and concentrates mainly on the electric Hammond B-3 organ. As an organist, Peterson draws heavily on the influence of soul-jazz heroes like Jack McDuff and the seminal Jimmy Smith. Although not stunning, Ernestly provides some gritty and unpretentious fun.
