Description
Heart – Heart – Vinyl Record
Heart’s self-titled 1985 album launched a major new phase for the band. Ann and Nancy Wilson remained the core, but producer Ron Nevison placed their voices and guitars inside a polished mid-1980s arena-rock sound built from large drums, layered keyboards, and carefully shaped choruses. The change brought Heart to a new generation without erasing the contrast between Ann’s vocal power and Nancy’s instrumental and melodic presence.
“If Looks Could Kill” opens with hard-edged guitar and an immediate statement of attitude. “What About Love,” written outside the band but made unmistakably Heart through Ann Wilson’s delivery, turns emotional demand into a towering chorus. “Never” follows with bright keyboards and rhythmic momentum, demonstrating how comfortably the group could work within contemporary pop production while retaining rock weight.
“These Dreams” gives Nancy Wilson the lead vocal and provides the album’s dreamlike center. Her softer tone changes the scale without reducing the drama. “The Wolf” closes the first side with a darker guitar-driven track. On the second side, “All Eyes” and “Nobody Home” move between public pressure and private isolation, reinforcing the album’s concern with desire, visibility, and emotional distance.
“Nothin’ at All” became another major single through its clean melodic construction and the force of the chorus. “What He Don’t Know” brings a more direct relationship narrative, while “Shell Shock” closes with the harder attack suggested by its title. The sequence is tightly paced, placing the biggest ballads among songs that keep the album connected to Heart’s rock foundation.
