HR – Human Rights – Vinyl Record
H.R. (Human Rights) is a solo project by Paul “H.R.” Hudson, best known as the frontman of the legendary hardcore punk band Bad Brains. With Human Rights, H.R. explored a different musical direction, moving away from the aggressive hardcore and punk roots of Bad Brains and embracing reggae, dub, and Rastafarian spirituality.
While Bad Brains was known for blending punk and reggae within the same albums, H.R. – Human Rights focuses almost entirely on roots reggae and dub, often featuring uplifting, spiritual, and politically conscious lyrics inspired by his Rastafarian faith. His vocal delivery is smooth and melodic, a contrast to the intense screams and yelps he was known for in Bad Brains.
H.R.’s work with Human Rights helped bridge the gap between the punk and reggae communities, solidifying his reputation as a unique and influential artist in both genres. While Bad Brains’ punk energy remained his most famous contribution to music, Human Rights showcases his deep love for reggae and his spiritual message of peace, love, and unity.
