Miles ’55 gathers sixteen Prestige recordings from the year Miles Davis formed his first great quintet and moved decisively toward the sound that would define his next era. The set includes work with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones, and other important players from the 1955 sessions.

The first record contains “I Didn’t,” “Will You Still Be Mine?,” “Green Haze,” “I See Your Face Before Me,” “A Night in Tunisia,” and “A Gal in Calico.” These performances show Davis balancing lyric restraint with the sharper rhythmic response of changing small-group lineups.

Later sides include “Dr. Jackle,” “Bitty Ditty,” “Minor March,” “Changes,” “Stablemates,” “How Am I to Know?,” “Just Squeeze Me,” “There Is No Greater Love,” “The Theme,” and “S’posin’.” The collection reveals a year of rapid development rather than presenting one famous session in isolation.

This limited three-LP edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl from remasters made from the original analog tapes by Paul Blakemore, with lacquers cut by Kevin Gray. New liner notes by Ashley Kahn and session notes by Dan Morgenstern add valuable context.
