Moby – Resound NYC – Double Vinyl Records
Resound NYC reimagines Moby’s New York-era catalog with orchestral instruments and a wide cast of vocalists. Released in 2023 by Deutsche Grammophon, the project removes much of the electronic framing from songs such as “Extreme Ways,” “South Side,” and “In This World,” exposing their gospel, soul, folk, and chamber-music foundations.
Gregory Porter brings quiet authority to “In My Heart,” Dougy Mandagi of the Temper Trap sings “Extreme Ways,” and Ricky Wilson appears on “South Side” and “The Perfect Life.” The arrangements are expansive but carefully paced, allowing guest voices and acoustic instruments to change the songs’ emotional temperature.
Amythyst Kiah, Nicole Scherzinger, Marisha Wallace, Margo Timmins, Damien Jurado, P. T. Banks, Oum, Sarah Willis, Danielle Ponder, Elijah Ponder, and Lady Blackbird extend the album’s range. Their performances make the collection feel like a sequence of individual dramatic scenes inside one orchestral design.
The later sides grow increasingly reflective through “When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die,” “Slipping Away,” “Second Cool Hive,” and “Hyenas,” before “Run On” and “Walk with Me” restore a more communal pulse. The reworkings respect the originals while refusing to reproduce them.
This standard black double-vinyl edition contains all fifteen tracks and carries UPC 028948633371. It is a separate product from the sun-yellow indie exclusive in this invoice.
