Resound NYC revisits Moby songs written during his New York years through new orchestral and acoustic arrangements. Released by Deutsche Grammophon in 2023, the album is not a conventional hits compilation: familiar melodies are reassigned to strings, brass, piano, choir, and guest singers, revealing the gospel, soul, and chamber-pop ideas inside the electronic originals.
Gregory Porter opens “In My Heart,” the Temper Trap reshapes “Extreme Ways,” and Ricky Wilson appears on “South Side” and “The Perfect Life.” Each singer brings a distinct grain, while Moby’s arrangements keep the album coherent through broad dynamics and recurring orchestral color.
Amythyst Kiah’s “Flower (Find My Baby),” Nicole Scherzinger and Marisha Wallace on “In This World,” and Margo Timmins with Damien Jurado on Neil Young’s “Helpless” expand the vocal range. The project treats collaboration as reinterpretation, not celebrity ornament.
The second record includes “When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die,” “Slipping Away,” “Second Cool Hive,” “Hyenas,” “Last Night,” “Run On,” and “Walk with Me.” The slower tempos and acoustic weight often expose melancholy that sat beneath the pulse of the originals.
This indie-exclusive edition presses the complete fifteen-track album on two translucent sun-yellow vinyl records. UPC 028948640423 distinguishes it from the standard black 2LP edition also included in this batch.
