Description
Robert Glasper – In My Element – Double Vinyl Record
In My Element is Robert Glasper’s second Blue Note album and an early statement of the musical border-crossing that would define his career. The acoustic trio format carries jazz improvisation, gospel harmony and hip-hop rhythm simultaneously.
Bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Damion Reid understand Glasper’s elastic relationship to the beat. Reid’s broken patterns can suggest programmed drums, while Archer anchors the music without restricting the pianist’s shifting accents.
“G&B” and “F.T.B.” develop through memorable motifs rather than head-solo-head routine. Glasper’s touch remains lyrical even when the rhythmic design becomes dense, preserving an inviting surface over complicated interaction.
The medley connecting Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage” with Radiohead’s “Everything in Its Right Place” became a defining performance. It demonstrates how Glasper hears shared atmosphere and harmony across supposedly separate genres.
Gospel influence appears in chord movement and emotional pacing rather than quotation. The trio can build from a quiet vamp to a powerful climax with the collective responsiveness of musicians accustomed to both church and jazz spaces.
This double-vinyl edition presents all eleven tracks across four sides. In My Element captures Glasper before the Experiment albums, already making a persuasive case for a contemporary jazz language shaped by the music around him.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
