Destiny is the seventh studio album by the British heavy metal band Saxon. It was released in 1988 and marked a stylistic departure for the band, incorporating more melodic and commercial elements into their sound. The album was produced by Stephan Galfas, who had previously worked with Journey and Def Leppard.
The title track is a power ballad that showcases Saxon’s ability to deliver emotionally charged and melodic songs. It features soaring vocals from lead singer Biff Byford and a memorable guitar solo. The lyrics touch upon themes of fate, longing, and the search for purpose in life.
While Destiny received mixed reviews upon its release, it did achieve some commercial success, particularly in continental Europe. The album also features other notable tracks such as ‘Ride Like the Wind,’ a cover of the Christopher Cross song, and ‘I Can’t Wait Anymore,’ a more hard-hitting and energetic track.
Saxon’s sound continued to evolve after Destiny, with the band exploring various styles and experimenting with different musical elements. They have remained active and influential in the heavy metal scene, releasing albums and touring regularly.
